The Power of Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Care
Our board-certified breast oncologists, fellowship-trained surgeons, medical oncologists and hematologists collaborate to deliver the most personalized treatment possible in one location, helping to minimize stress during your or your loved one’s care.
Baptist Cancer Center also offers an all-female breast surgical team to help women feel comfortable. We offer genetic testing and counseling to help determine the role genes play in your breast cancer risk and recurrence.
Our patient navigators are available at every step to schedule appointments, answer questions, explain the treatment process, and provide resources, education and support when you need it.
Personalized Breast Cancer Treatment
We treat many types of breast cancer:
- Ductal carcinoma in situ
- Inflammatory breast cancer
- Invasive ductal carcinoma
- Invasive lobular carcinoma
Every breast cancer journey is different, and our treatment plans are tailored to each patient’s needs, desires and preferences. Plans may include a lumpectomy to remove the tumor or a mastectomy to remove the breast, potentially followed by breast reconstructive surgery using advanced microsurgical techniques. Some patients may also need radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.
When suitable, our team also performs intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT), a procedure that delivers a one-time dose of targeted radiation during surgery without the need for repeat visits for more radiation treatments. Baptist Cancer Center is the only facility to offer IORT in the Mid-South. Our specialists also use radioactive seed localization to mark small, hard-to-see tumors for more precise removal.
Schedule a Breast Cancer Screening at Baptist
Early detection of breast cancer is your best chance of overcoming the disease. Knowing when to have your first mammogram and how often you should be screened for breast cancer is key to early detection and effective treatment. Most women should begin screening annually at age 40, but you may need earlier or more frequent screening depending on your individual risk.
Talk to your doctor about when you should begin annual screening. If you need to schedule your next mammogram, please call 901-227-PINK (7465).
